Pakistan is a true friend of Nepal : Vice President

Rt. Hon'ble Vice-President Mr.Nanda Bahadur Pun has said : Pakistan is a true friend of Nepal. It has been extending selfless support to us whenever we are in difficulty. There are many instances in which she has promptly helped us when we need friendly cooperation.

VP Mr. Pun was speaking at the program organized by Nepal-Pakistan Friendship and Cultural Association on the occasion of 70th Independence Day of Pakistan at Hotel Radisson, Lazimpat on 14th August 2016, Sunday.

Speaking as a Chief Guest of the program, VP Mr. Pun said- "Nepal and Pakistan have been enjoying excellent relations since the two nations established their diplomatic relations in 1960. The bilateral ties between the two nations have been cordial and amicable. High level of understanding, mutual cooperation and deep friendship has been guiding us. Identical culture and civilization has enhanced our fraternity.Her instantaneous humanitarian support to Nepal during the devastating earthquake last year is an illustrious example. Pakistan was the first nation to send rescue and relief operation teams to Nepal in the aftermath of killing quake. It dispatched planes to rescue the survivors, conducted the mobile hospitals, and provided medicines, food items and tarpaulins to the victims. Thus, she has lived up to a popular saying: A friend in need is a friend in deed.”

Further VP Mr. Pun also said- "Pakistan has been helping Nepal in educational, technical and economic fields. It has granted scholarships to the Nepalese students to pursue their advanced study in various academic fields. Hundreds of Nepalese doctors have graduated from Pakistan.    As members of the SAARC, the Non-Alignment Movement and the United Nations, Nepal and Pakistan hold common views and position on many regional and international issues. Both espouse common vision to eradicate poverty and restore lasting peace and order in their respective countries and the region as well."

VP Mr. Pun lauded Pakistan for providing scholarships to hundreds of Nepalese students to pursue higher studies in Pakistan.  He asked the Pakistani government to resume Kathmandu-Karachi air service to benefit the people of two nations.

VP Mr. Pun also extended heartfelt greetings to Pakistan and her people on the occasion of their Independence Day and wish them a happy and successful future and congratulated the Pakistani government and people on this occasion.

At the Programe, H.E. Pakistan's Ambassador to Nepal Dr Mazhar Javed  noted that Nepal  was very important nation for Pakistan to boost regional development and the interdependency.

"We do not directly share borders with Nepal but we have strong sentimental bonds. The two nations should come together for regional peace and prosperity," he said.

Quoting Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah's adage- our object should be peace within, and peace without-, envoy Dr. Javed said that our relations with the friendly nations have been marked by mutual confidence, non-interference, trust, regional development and  sustainable development.

Former Deputy Prime Minister and CPN-ML General Secretary Hon'ble Mr. CP Mainali said that shared peace and prosperity were the common agenda of two nations.

He said that the two nations had common views at the regional and global forums such as SAARC, NAM and the United Nations.

CPN-UML Senior Leader Mr. Bharat Mohan Adhikari called for increasing trade and investment between the two nations, and added that Nepalese could learn from inspiring economic development Pakistan achieved despite daunting challenges.

CPN-Maoist Center spokesperson of Prime Minister Prachanda Party Ms. Pampha Bhusal said that Pakistan's gains in the field of science and technology was really emulating.

"It is a matter of great satisfaction that Nepal and Pakistan never experienced any bilateral problems in their 56 years old relations," she said Pakistan to boost regional development and interdependency.

CPN-Maoist foreign department Head of Biplob Party Mr. Dharmendra Bastola said that Pakistan offered a grand example how a nation made developmental feat even in the difficult circumstances.

While delivering Welcome speech, President of Nepal-Pakistan Friendship & Cultural Association Mr. Himalaya S. Rana has said- "Our Association has been hosting the Pakistan Independence Day Reception every year in August for the last 8 years, and I am pleased to mention that the number of guests attending our Reception has been increasing every year. This is a testimony to the high regard of the guests, representing many sectors of Nepal, for the close bond of friendship between Nepal and Pakistan. In addition to the Independence Day Reception our Association has been carrying out a number of campaigns to cater to the needs of the people of Nepal in cooperation with the Embassy of Pakistan. Mr. Manju Ratna Shakya, our Secretary General, will recount them during his address later."

Mr. Rana also said-“let me go back to the past. I was a student in Bombay during mid 1940s when the movement for Independence of India and Pakistan was at its peak. I still remember exclaiming ‘Pakistan Jindabad’ on 14th August 1947 together with my student friends Yusuf Kadam from Surat, Sirajudin Shekh from Bombay and Hafeez from Nagpur. Eventually, my Muslim friends migrated to Pakistan. Little did I know then that in the years to come, I will be posted to Pakistan as the Resident Coordinator of United Nations for four years plus. The warmth of cordiality and co-operation extended to me by the officials and people of Pakistan during my tenure are cherished by me and my wife.  Another unexpected event was my assuming charge as the President of Nepal Pakistan Friendship and Cultural Association in a few years after my return to Nepal on retirement from the service of United Nation.”

Futher Mr. Rana said-“Nepal has established diplomatic relation with more than 100 countries. Many of these countries have geo-political or other interests. Pakistan is one of the few countries extending selfless friendship and support to the Government and people of Nepal. I have been pleading every year from this platform for expansion of trade and investment between our two countries. I will say no more on this subject because the speakers who are scheduled to address later will vent their views on the different aspects of Nepal Pakistan relationship.”

NPFCA supremo Mr. Rana also mentioned- “I am grateful to Rt. Hon’ble Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun for graciously accepting to be the Chief Guest this evening. Shree Bharat Mohan Adhikariji have had dealings with Pakistan and I wish to extend  thanks to Mr. Dharmendra Bastola who is the leader of CPN Maoist for finding time to participate in this evening’s program. Shree C.P. Mainaliji has been a participant in a number of programs launched by our Association. His intellectual inputs on those occasions have been stimulating. Thanks for joining us today as well. I wish to welcome in our speaker’s panel Ms. Pampha Bhusal, leader and spokesperson of the Unified Maoist Party."

Addressing at the program, General Secretary of Nepal - Pakistan Friendship & Cultural Association Dr. Manju Ratna Sakya said: “NPFCA is celebrating successfully Independence Day of  Islamic Republic of Pakistan by organizing a talk programme with grand Reception every year in Kathmandu which is followed by Musical evening and Refreshments.

Giving details of the activities of  NPFCA, Dr. Sakya who is also the President of  Nepal Journalist Association has said-“It is here to note that NPFCA had recently organized successfully Free Medical Camp from Nepalese Doctors who graduated from Pakistan at Paropakar H.S. School, Bhimsensthan, Kathmandu on Saturday, 2nd April 2016. The Camp was  inaugurated by Hon. Deputy Prime Minister Mr. C.P Mainali, H.E. Ambassador of  Pakistan Dr. Mazhar Javed and NPFCA Chief Mr. Himalaya S. Rana jointly by lighting a traditional oil fed Panas Lamp.

Likewise, at the request of people of Dapcha Kashikhanda Municipality, Bhakundebeshi, Kavre, NPFCA had also organized a Free Medical Camp from Nepalese Doctors who graduated from Pakistan on 30th April 2016, Saturday at Methinkot Hospital, Dapcha, Kavre.

The same camp was inaugurated jointly by City Mayor of Bhakundebeshi Municipality Mr. Damaru Dahal, H.E. Ambassador of Pakistan Dr. Mazhar Javed and NPFCA Chief Mr. Himalaya S. Rana  by lighting a oil fed Panas Lamp admist a special programme. In that camp, Dapcha Kashikhanda Municipalty, Shree Janahit H.S. School, Roshi Literature Academy, Methinkot Hospital and Bhakundebeshi Jaycees had actively cooperated. In the Camp 509 patients of that place benefited freely.”

Further Dr. Sakya said-“NPFCA provided free medicines to all the patients of the above two camps for six months too.”

Mentioning about the participants of Doctors in the Camp, Dr. Sakya also said- “In the camp, Nepalese Doctors Dr. Ramesh Malla, Prof. Dr. Om Krishna Malla, Dr. Anjana Karki, Dr Prabin Bahadur Pradhan, Dr. Udaya Man Singh Dongol, Dr. Suman Kumar Shrestha, Dr. Roushan Jahan, Dr. Najla Khatun, Dr. Bharat Bahadur Amatya, Dr. Deepankar Prajapati, Dr. Ichya Upreti, Dr. Rojeet Shakya, Dr. Sushma Shrestha, Dr. Priyanka Gupta,  Dr. Ritu Pradhan and Dr. Dipendra Bahadur Amatya had actively participated . 513 patients benefited directly from the Free Medical Camp."

According to Dr. Sakya, the following Free services were provided to all the patients in the Camps.

3) Eye Surgeon (Ophthalmology)

5) Diebetic & Blood Pressure 6) Kidney

12) Dental

13) ECG & X-ray services     

14) Retina

Dr.Sakya also mentioned that at the request of Nepalese people, NPFCA is planning to organize Free Medical Camp in Kathmandu at  Paropakar School  and Kavre  next year also.

NPFCA also sincerely hope that Free Medical Camp had definitely helped to the different sectors of  Nepalese people specially to the old, depressed and poor people of above places. Nepal  Diabatic Society, Nepal Cancer Relief Society Kathmandu Branch and Paropakar Central Clinic had also kindly cooperated in the camps.

Likewise, Vijaydeep Laboratories, CIPLA Pharmaceaticals P. Ltd.  and sepcially Senior Dr. Ramesh Malla had kindly contributed medicines freely.

To celebrate 70th Independence Day of Pakistan, Chief Guest Rt. Hon’ble Vice President Mr. Nanda Bahadur Pun, H.E. Ambassador of Pakistan Dr. Mazhar Zaved and President of NPFCA Mr. Rana jointly cut the special Cake at the programme.

At the program, Minister Mr. Ramesh Lekhak, Foreign SecretaryMr. Shanker Bairagi, Ambassadors, Members of  Diplomatic Corps, Chief of Nepalese Army General Rajendra Chhetri, Leaders of Political Parties, Former Ambassadors, Diplomats, SAARC Directors, High level Government officials including from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Defense &  Home Affairs, Consul Generals, Bankers, Professors, Medias, Industrialists, Chief of different organizations including Pakistan Study Centre as well as large number of People from various walks of life were present.

Likewise, Diplomats, High level officers and Staffs of  Embassy of  Pakistan with their Spouses had also kindly attended. Kathmandu based Pakistanese also actively participated in the program.

Musical Program by SURAAG Band also entertained to the invitees. Refreshment were also served to all.
